Shocking As Teenager Life Streamed Her Suicide With Periscope App

Periscope, Twitter owned live streaming app, has had more than a 100 million broadcasts since its inception last year. Despite its growing popularity, the app has come under scanner for its possible misuse.

The app was alleged of encouraging violent people to commit sensational acts to gain attention. Other controversial cases include live streaming of a sexual assault of a 17-year-old, and broadcasts including an intoxicated woman driver, a murderer in jail or teenagers committing robbery. Now, a French teenager used the live stream to broadcast her suicide live.

The 19-year-old girl threw herself in front of a train in Paris and streamed it live on Periscope. The girl also named a person she claimed had raped her recently. The Police was informed by someone watching the Periscope stream and an investigation to look into the circumstances of the suicide has begun. The analysis of the phone and recovery of the video are on.

The video of the woman’s suicide had an estimated 1,000 views. The video is no longer available on the app but excerpts from it have been circulated on the Internet. The woman allegedly informed one of her close relations about her intentions by an SMS a few minutes before her death. She also made statements to Internet users on Periscope and gave an explanation for her act.

The woman had also filmed herself in her flat previously where she was discussing how she intended to create a video warning younger viewers to discontinue watching the video of the shocking act.
