Samsung Galaxy S7 To Be Launched On February 21st

It’s been long rumored that Samsung is planning on launching the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge at a pre-MWC 2016 event, the actual date was still a part of speculations since Samsung hasn’t sent any official invites.

Leakster Evan Blass has shared a couple of screens that point at February 21 as the launch date for Samsung’s flagship smartphones. One of the screenshots shows the hashtag #TheNextGalaxy, while the second screen simply shows the date – February 21, 2016.

Earlier this week, Blass had shared a couple of official press renders of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge. The date on smartphones’ display was February 21, which adds weight to the latest leaked screens.

Speaking of leaked press renders, the upcoming smartphones seem to look largely the same as last year’s Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The edges on the Galaxy S7 are a tad more curvier than its predecessor though, which is more pronounced on the flat variant than the Galaxy S7 Edge.

The Galaxy S7 is said to feature a 5.1-inch screen, while the Galaxy S7 Edge will feature a 5.5-inch display. Both will be Super AMOLED displays at QHD resolution.

Under the hood will either be a Snapdragon 820 chipset or an Exynos 8890 depending upon the market, paired with 4GB of RAM, and 32GB and 64GB storage options. This time Samsung seems to have brought back the microSD card slot, which it had omitted in the Galaxy S6 that led to harsh criticism from users. It could also be waterproof, just like the Galaxy S5.

On the photography front, Samsung is said to be opting for a 12-megapixel snapper (down from 16-megapixel), but accompanied by a larger f/1.7 lens aperture that is said to be very capable in low light conditions. By opting for a ‘smaller’ camera, Samsung is also likely to get rid of the camera hump that was seen on last year’s smartphones.

The Galaxy S7 is expected to feature a 3,000mAh battery with an USB Type-C port, while the Edge variant will feature a slightly bigger 3,600mAh battery.
